Program Participation
As a Shared Solar program participant in the Duke Energy Carolinas (DEC) territory, you will subscribe to a portion of the production of an array (which may be owned by Duke Energy). All of the energy produced by the array will be distributed onto the Duke Energy grid (no part of the production will be returned to the program participant’s physical location).
Program Benefits
Your participation in Duke Energy’s Shared Solar program allows you to take advantage of solar energy’s benefits without the installation or maintenance costs of a rooftop or ground-mount solar array. In addition to supporting the development of sustainable energy sources in South Carolina, you’ll automatically earn monthly bill credits for each kilowatt-hour of energy produced by the solar panels included in your subscription.
Eligibility
Duke Energy customers holding active accounts with metered service within the service area of South Carolina may be eligible to participate. At the time of application, the Duke Energy account must be current (paid in full) and qualified applicants will not have more than two late payments in the last 12 months.
Account holders currently participating in net metering or Duke Energy payment plans (Deferred Payment Arrangement, Pay As You Go) are not eligible. Account holders with bankruptcy flags on their Duke Energy account will be disqualified from participating. If a Duke Energy account is not eligible for any of the reasons outlined within these terms, account holders may update their account information and reapply.
Eligibility rules include but are not limited to:
- The applicant must have an active South Carolina Duke Energy account.
- The applicant’s account must have metered service.
- The applicant must not be a net metered customer.
- The applicant's account must not have a currently past due amount at the time of application for the program.
- The applicant must not be on a payment plan (Deferred Payment Arrangement (DPA) or Pay As You Go).
- The applicant must not have a bankruptcy flag on their account.
- The applicant must not be a resident of Greenwood, SC on a grandfathered rate.
Enrollment Process
Once your enrollment in the Shared Solar program is confirmed, your subscription will be reserved until you pay the application fee and enrollment fee that will appear on your next Duke Energy statement. If you do not pay the fees by the time your Duke Energy payment is due, your reservation will be canceled and your application fee will be forfeited. Monthly subscription charges and credits will start appearing on your Duke Energy statement following the payment of the application fee and enrollment fee.
